College Counseling
We begin the process by creating a resume, which facilitates the entire Application procedure. Many schools accept the Common Application, but others have an application system of their own.
We provide:
- in depth personal statement and essay assistance
- supplemental material assistance (portfolios, audition schedules/information, film and script aid, sports team information/directions)
- help in obtaining appropriate letters of recommendation
- dealing with teachers and counselors (Naviance support)
- instruction on showing demonstrated interest (visiting colleges, contacting admissions officers)
- standardized test aid/strategies
- assistance applying to honors programs
- help navigating the decision process of early decision/early action
- information on financial aid and locating additional resources in this area
Our services are critical in helping to avoid common mistakes of the application process including missing deadlines, failing to follow application instructions, failing to submit adequate supplemental materials, inadequate/inappropriate personal statement, poor recommendation letters, lying on the application, not visiting colleges or showing interest, lack of rigor in senior year, and failing to communicate with colleges.
We provide personal one-on-one assistance and offer extensive help in the following areas:
Activity Planning
High school is a four year opportunity to not only grow and experience new adventures, it also can be the initial path to higher education and an interesting career. We help create an action plan for college by making an information sheet that illuminates: high school courses to take each year; extracurricular activities to participate in; and community service opportunities to discover and partake. We also help with standardized test (SAT/ACT/Advanced Placement) strategies, and set a plan for when to study and take these exams. We want high school to be a rewarding experience and open doors to colleges and universities.
College Matching Services
Deciding what colleges/universities you may be interested in can be a daunting task. There are so many considerations: small/big, private/public, urban/rural, majors available, school culture etc. etc. etc. We help you research and locate schools that would be the right fit for you and we create a list of these potential colleges. We also help find schools for those lucky students who already know what majors they are interested in and what they want to study.
Transfer Student Assistance
Some students do not initially find the right fit and are interested in transferring to another institution. We help with the entire transfer process including locating new schools of interest, and assisting with the application process (applications, essays, recommendations, interviews, college contact). We also aid students to locate and take the right courses at their current school so as many units as possible are transferable to the new college and intended major.
Interview Process
It can be a very frightening experience to interview with admissions personnel so we provide extensive interview strategies and techniques. We supply you with a formal resume to be presented at the interview. We also provide information on common questions, interview pitfalls, proper clothing, and personal contact. Many clients enjoy our role playing workshops and find it highly beneficial for first time interviews. After the interview there are also appropriate procedures to follow and we provide information in this area as well.
